HOW TO GET ALONG WITH PEOPLE (PARTICULARLY YOUR
SPOUSE)
In these days of email, text
messaging & video conferencing, a whole generation of our young people seem
to have lost the ability to interact with others except on the most basic of
levels. The parents of these young people have lost their positive parenting
possibilities by separation & divorce, trying to be their kids”best friends”, having multiple partners, or drug &
alcohol abuse. Trusting others seems to be at an all time low.
The logical outcome of these
trends is a generation of people unable to communicate with others
effectively,
&
unable to sustain close relationships. The already high percentage of marriages ending in divorce could
skyrocket, even long term common law relationships could be a thing of the
past. The resulting mental illness, violence, & drug & alcohol abuse
caused by relational stress & loneliness could strain our health resources
past any reasonable level. A serious situation, but there is hope!! We as a
society need to get over ourselves & our personal needs & consider the consequences of our
actions. How can we expect our young people to respect us & themselves when some of us as the “older generation”
demonstrate such destructive lifestyles & behaviour??
Lets stop complaining about the younger generation,
improve our own behaviour, & get back to the
basics of being good parents, coworkers, friends & mentors.
In our many years of
experience in counselling, we have observed how people in
successful relationships behave. When asked, they have identified several
factors that are important to their relationships success. None of this is
“rocket science” just
common sense. We call these the seven Cs of interpersonal relationships.
We offer a 2 hour interactive
